Mice In The Attic {
Packhorse Project
}
Across 2 weekends in December 2013, The Continuum Project {Mice in the Attic} took over the Pop-Up Shop in the Packhorse Centre, Huddersfield.
Transforming a bright pink shop into an Edwardian Living Room was our project. We took inspiration from online documentation, looking at the changing fashions and colours of the time. We discovered that far from the dull, dark Victorian era, the Edwardians embraced the change of the times and enjoyed bright, airy rooms with flashes of Art Deco and Modernism.
The Edwardian Living Room project was to sit side-by-side with our work about Dora Thewlis and Edith Key. We wanted to bring a little piece of this era to a shopping centre and the room serves as a piece of living history - around the room you will see photographs, mementos and little snippets of a fascinating story that revolves around 2 likeable women and their families of this age.
The photographs show the transformation of the shop. We held Art workshops for any visitors to the Packhorse Centre during the day and then worked with Alexander Kyle and The Halifax Chamber Choir to produce an alternative carol concert, which will take place on Thursday 19th December 2013 from 3.30pm - 5pm.
We hope to see you there.
