Dora Thewlis

 

 

Born: 15th May 1890


Parents: James Lindley Thewlis and Eliza Elizabeth Taylor


Siblings: Mary, Amy, Flora, Eveline, Mabel, Maud Thewlis. Nephew Arthur Leslie Thewlis (b. 1904) living with her parents in 1911.


1891: Living in Holmfirth with her grandparents.


1901: Living in Ramsbottom with her family


20th March 1907: Arrested at a Suffrage March and catapulted to fame on the front page of the Mirror Newspaper, which mistook her for 'A Lancashire Lass'


1911: Classed as a Woollen Weaver (Worsted) aged 20, on census. Lived at 14 Bradley Street South as a boarder with her sister, Fred Hamilton (a music hall performer) and Samuel Warburton , a visitor who was a furrier. The place was owned by Ann Nicholl and her daughter Annie who also lived there.


1914: Moved to Australia
